Theme of The Game
5 Star Knockout might feature a unique setup, but its design is nothing that you haven’t seen before. The classic theme used here revolves mostly around Sevens, along with a few other symbols. It looks like a modern design, but that’s just a testament to the designers that did what they could with the theme they were handed.
For the lowest-paying symbols, they’ve used the images of the card suits. Next, we have three Sevens, colored in blue, silver, and red. The top symbol is the 5 Star logo. You will also encounter Stars as scatters.
Developer
Like many new slot machines these days, 5 Star Knockout isn’t coming from just one developer. Microgaming is the one that gets the slot machine for its network, as an exclusive, and they get to add their name to it, even though it was built by Northern Lights Gaming.
How To Play the 5 Star Knockout Slot Machine
Once you click on the Bet button, a new screen opens up, and on it you will find a list of 15 wagers to choose from. The lowest one is worth $0.20, while the maximum bet is $50.
5 Star Knockout comes with 20 paylines, and there are 5 reels which will spin for you. The winning combinations are the usual ones, requiring that 3 to 5 symbols which match should be on the same line, and aligned left to right.
Special Features
One of the more unusual things about 5 Star Knockout, is that it uses Star Meters for each type of symbol. As you land Star scatters on the reels, up to 5 of them at a time, you will be able to collect them in these meters. They appear to go to random meters whenever they show up.
You start off with an empty board, but there is a Bonus Stars mechanic which triggers then, to populate the meters with a random number of stars.
Win Spins are random, and they are basically respins which keep triggering until you stop getting new winning combinations.
If you can fill a meter with Stars, you will trigger the free spins. At least 5 free spins are won at this point, though additional meters filled will get you 2 more rounds each time, regardless if this happened in the triggering spin or during the feature.
Filling a symbol’s meter will remove it from the reels, so you’re playing the feature with fewer types of symbols, and better odds of actually forming winning combinations.
Finally, a multiplier of up to 5x can be randomly applied to wins formed in this feature.
Maximum Payouts
Thanks to multipliers and free spins, it’s not unlikely that a winning combination would pay up to 4,500x the stake, which is the top jackpot that is mentioned in 5 Star Knockout. If you look at the typical slot that has medium volatility, you will find smaller top rewards in most of them, so I’m more than satisfied with the potential we see in this one.
5 Star Knockout also comes with a high-enough RTP to be worth considering. At 96.09%, it’s a good number, but I’d double check it in the help files, just to be sure. A lot of recent Microgaming slots have been released with an RTP range, which includes lower values as well.
Summary
Overall, 5 Star Knockout manages to put out something that feels unique, at least when it comes to gameplay. I’m far less impressed with its theme and graphics.
