How To Play It
It’s a fairly big game area, and it gets even larger as you play, and yet you only need 30 coins for your bets. $0.30 is the minimum amount required, where the coin denomination is $0.01. The maximum bet is $150, with the coin value at $5.
You start off with 5×3 reels, where 243 ways to win find room to form combinations, 3+ symbols required from left to right, on consecutive reels. The game’s ability to expand the reels, allows for as many as 1,944 ways to win to be unlocked eventually, at least for a short while.
The Hotline series uses a new mechanic, though it’s a bit different between the games we’ve seen released so far. For Hotline 2, the special game area is going to take over the reels 2, 3 and 4 completely. You typically get all three if you use 30 coins in your bets, but you can also use only some of them, if you’re willing to play with a lower potential RTP. It’s not recommended, since your odds of winning will be lower.
What makes the Hotline zone special, is the fact that wild symbols have the ability to expand when they land there.
Up to 3 reels can be turned completely wild at random, so this can happen even without getting the wild symbols on them. This is a random feature though.
If you want access to the 7 free spins which Hotline 2 offers, you need the Flamingo scatters showing up at the same time on the three reels from the Hotline zone. Wilds which land in the zone, will now give the game area a boost as well, adding more ways to win to the total as a result. You can end up with 6-symbol high reels in the middle, while the 1st and 5th columns remain the same. 1,944 ways to win is the most that you can get.
I like what the game is doing here, with a top jackpot of 5,184x the stake potentially available. Volatility might be Medium, but that’s not bad at all for that kind of reward actually. They made sure to keep a healthy 96.05% RTP as well, so that’s another point in the game’s favor.
Hotline 2 is a lot of fun, and it’s an excellent slot machine to try out even if you’re not familiar with the original title. The graphics may be inspired by the 80s, but the quality is as good as anything else you get in 2020 from this developer. Add the mix of medium volatility and big potential rewards, and I think it’s going to do great for a lot of players.
