Theme of The Game
The Jurassic Park brand has been in use at Microgaming for a long time now, and we’ve seen several slot machines based on it, and on the film that followed recently, called Jurassic World. The older film is the one that’s going to inspired this new release, called Jurassic Park Gold. The graphics are pretty good, even though the images we see are of the actors that played in the original film.
First, let’s check out the feature symbols, those showing us Mosquitoes trapped in amber, Powerballs, or the Jurassic Park Wilds. The regular symbols come in two versions, with the five low value ones showing us images of various dinosaurs (from Pterodactyl to T-Rex), while the five premium symbols give us just as many actors/characters from the original film.
Developer
Jurassic Park Gold was created by Stormcraft Studios, for Microgaming. Stormcraft Studios is based in South Africa, and it’s a newer developer, established in 2016. Microgaming is a much older outfit, based in Isle of Man, being considered one of the companies at the top of this industry.
How To Play It
You may select a wager that’s of lower or higher value, as you see fit, but you may only do so within the limits imposed. $0.20 is going to be the lowest bet, while $30 is the highest one.
If you’ve played any modern slot machine, then Jurassic Park Gold will not feel that different. Having 3 to 5 matching symbols on a line, and properly lined up left to right, is all it takes to form winning combinations on the slot’s 40 lines. 5 reels are used.
Special Features
The first symbol that I’d like to mention in the features section, is the wild, the one using the Jurassic Park logo. Used as a multiplier wild, it either boosts wins by 2x or 5x. It can create winning combinations of its own, where it pays up to 125x the stake on each line. It has the ability to land double stacked.
There are free spins for you inside, but you need 3+ scatters landing first, to get to them. The versions included are:
-
Dilophosaurus Free Spins: 12 rounds with up to 3,600x the stake paid, and multiplier wilds go up to 8x.
-
Velociraptor Free Spins: 9 rounds with up to 3,650x the stake as a prize, using the same multiplier wilds of up to 8x.
-
Spinosaurus Free Spins: 6 rounds, multiplier wilds of 2x-8x, and wins of up to 4,000x.
-
T-Rex Free Spin: 1 spin, with a top prize of 5,000x the stake. You’re guaranteed access to a Wildstorm that gives you up to 5 wild reels. To get it, you need to collect pairs of Mosquito scatters in the base game, until you unlock it for the next free spins trigger.
Link & Win is the only other major feature offered. It triggers through Powerball scatters, which need to land 6+ times. They become locked, and the 3 respins start. You reset the respins by getting more Powerballs. As you fill up the reels, additional reels are unlocked (up to 5×8 reels available). Prizes come as fixed jackpots or regular cash prizes from Powerballs.
Maximum Payouts
While we’ve definitely seen better, I wouldn’t complain too much about the 8,000x top jackpot that’s offered by Jurassic Park Gold. You can win it during Link & Win respins. An excellent alternative comes from the T-Rex free spin, with its Wildstorm, where a prize of 5,000x the stake is a possibility.
While the rewards are decent, many slots will go even higher when they come with high volatility. The 96% RTP is good, if you can get it (the RTP range has lower values as well).
Summary
Jurassic Park Gold isn’t too bad, as a modern slot machine it works and it comes with enough features that players tend to enjoy these days. There is variety there, and decent returns, but the top payouts could’ve gone even higher and nobody would’ve minded.
