Lord of the Wilds
Among the many excellent slot machines that Red Tiger has launched over the years, Lord of the Wilds fits right in when it comes to graphics quality and attention to detail. Theme wise, it looks like it’s inspired by the story of Tarzan, without actually mentioning him by name.
Instead, the main characters are Jungle Man and Jungle Lady. We have the half-naked wild man on one side, and the British lady on the other, wearing an explorer’s outfit and showing plenty of cleavage, so it’s not exactly jungle wear. Three medium symbols have images of wildlife, with the Black Panther, the Ape and the Toucan Bird. Low symbols give us the four card suits, carved out of gems and tied with vines.
A NetEnt company, Red Tiger has an impressive collection of more than 180 slot machines by now, and it’s all been done since 2014, the year of their launch. I can’t remember a single game of theirs that didn’t look great, so some of their reputation has been built on the same type of design as NetEnt is known for. Expect good graphics then, but the features can be hit and miss, and quite a few of them will be based on random events, rather than symbol triggers.
How To Play It
Pick the Stake option, to open up the list of bet values that you may choose from. It’s a range which goes from $0.10 to $40 per spin.
In exchange for whatever bet you go with, there will be 30 lines active on 5 reels. 3, 4 or 5 symbols need to line up, left to right on the same line, to get you paid.
The way to get the wild symbol to show up in decent numbers, is to first have regular Jungle Man symbols present. At the same time, you need a random event which has the Jungle Lady as its main protagonist. It will turn all those regular Jungle Man symbols, into Jungle Man Wilds. These act as substitutes for the next spin, and they also pay better when they form winning combinations by themselves (300x vs 180x). The name of this random feature is Wild Kiss.
Jungle Treasure is the second random feature that may trigger. It has the Jungle Man in the main role, and we see him swinging across the screen, giving you top paying Jungle Man icons in random locations.
You may also trigger free spins, with 10, 15 or 20 rounds offered in exchange for 3, 4 or 5 scattered Elephants, respectively. In this mode, wilds will be sticky on the reels when they show up.
It’s not the type of game to amaze the player with its high potential. At best, it can pay 2,100x the stake, and that’s not what you’d want in a slot which has high volatility. Another issue is its RTP, which is 95.66%, so below the average number we expect to see. It’s not a big difference, but it’s there, and there are too many slots which go well over 96%.
Lord of the Wilds has the impressive graphics that you’d expect, but when it comes to payouts, RTP, volatility, and even regular features, there is a lot for it to improve, before it can be a great pick.
