Maya U Max
Theme of The Game
Maya U Max will come with a Mayan themed design, and while it’s not going to be all that visible in its symbols, you do see the inspiration that’s coming for it, in the general decorations. Overall though, it’s going to be one of the weaker designs for this particular theme, which we’ve seen in dozens of slot machines already.
The choice of symbols is the one that makes me say that it’s not a great design, since rather than actual Mayan themed images, we’re seeing colorful gemstones in the top symbols, and Royals in the bottom ones.
The game is coming from Gong Gaming Technologies, but it will be a Microgaming exclusive. We’re seeing a lot of games that are designed by the company’s partners, sometimes sharing features. It’s not the case with Maya U Max though, this appears to be a unique title.
How To Play It
Maya U Max will be played with a fixed wager, designed to cover the ways to win that are available. The options are anywhere between $0.20 and $12.
There are 243 ways to win guaranteed on the 5×3 reels, but the U Max system is designed to expand the game area, and boost the ways to win. The potential is to get up to 15,552 ways during paid spins, and up to 248,832 ways for the free games.
As I just mentioned, Maya U Max comes with its very own way of expanding the game area. It’s a popular choice, and everyone appears to be trying to create their own version for these expansions. Here, it works with the help of a U Max symbol, which is transformed into four regular symbols. The four symbols in which it is turned, can be seen at the top of the middle reels during regular spins, and above all reels for the free games. These are called Toppers, and they cycle out, one symbol at a time.
With the U Max symbols landing and transforming into 4 regular symbols, you get an extra 3 symbols on that reel, and the ways to win will get a significant boost. This can happen on all positions of each reel that has Toppers at the top.
There is a Wild logo that can show up, and it’s a substitute that you can combine with any regular symbols. There is nothing special there, it’s a solid feature, but very common.
For even higher potential, you want access to the free spins. There are 5 for you to trigger, via 5 scatter symbols (Golden Idol), with 1 extra added on top for each additional one (up to 36 possible). This is also something that you can retrigger.
What changes here, is that you can now get the Toppers and U Max symbols for all reels, so there is a huge boost to the maximum ways to win, now going up to 248,832.
Microgaming is not generally considered a developer that targets experienced players, and the lower volatility of some of their older slots is proof of that. On the other hand, they’ve gone a different way with Maya U Max, and the slot can pay as much as 20,000x the stake. It’s impressive, and it’s looking like a choice for veterans, that would be OK with a game that has medium-high volatility. RTP is looking fine, but at 95.69% it’s under the average a bit.
Maya U Max is not a bad slot machine, and I enjoyed its potential and the U Max system for expanding the game area. Keep in mind though, there are plenty of high volatility games that will come with a better RTP, and I would recommend giving yourself the best odds possible to walk away with a profit.
