Theme of The Game
Life onboard cruise ships is supposed to be fun, and you get to see a lot of new places during the day, while sipping cocktails and meeting new people in the evening. Sounds like a blast, and it’s the theme that Gold Coin Studios and Microgaming went with for Smooth Sailing, their latest slot machine. The cartoon-like design works fine for it, though it’s not that impressive, and the background image gives us a glimpse of the ship.
As symbols, some of the positions will be occupied by colorful Royals, but the themed ones will deliver images of bells, ship’s wheel, an anchor, and the captain’s hat. Boat symbols and wilds are also going to be seen on those reels.

As I previously said, this is a game that comes from Microgaming and Gold Coin Studios, so it’s an exclusive for the giant, from a smaller developer that they’ve partnered with. The quality of the games from these partnerships can vary, but overall I’d say it’s a plus for Microgaming.
How To Play It
To play this game, all you need is to decide on a wager, then hit spin. The bet options are going from $0.20 to $40.
The wager can be increased, and you could pay $0.30 to $60, if you used the Gold Coin Bet (doubles the odds of triggering free spins).
In exchange, you’re going to get a slot machine with 5×3 reels, that has 20 active lines. The Connectify Pays system is an unusual addition, one which we’ve previously seen in a game called Treasure Tracks. It allows you to form boats here, by landing 2 or more pieces of the same color, and in exchange you can claim the prizes shown on the left-side meter.
Special Features
The biggest thing about Smooth Sailing is the Connectify Pays system. It can end up delivering wins of up to 6,000x the stake, if you can get the yellow boat formed, using five pieces from as many reels.
For the more common side of the slot, look out of the wild symbol. It’s a substitute, and it also creates winning combinations that can pay incredibly well, even up to 1,000x the stake per line.
The free spins could trigger whenever 3 scatters are on the reels, and you will have 10 rounds to get through. These could be Ship scatters, or it could be Ticket scatters that you get when the extra bet is active. In this mode, you try to complete boats, in order to claim prizes from the left-side meter. There are also better rewards to be claimed from some of the symbols, with Royals paying as much as 75x the stake per combo.

Through the Connectify Pays system, and the yellow boat that you can form by landing the right symbols, a top prize of 6,000x the stake could be paid. At the maximum bet, you could get paid up to $240,000.
The slot machine’s high volatility will make it a problem for some players, but you will also find that it has a high hit frequency of 38%, and a 96.22% RTP. Do check on that RTP value though, as some casinos may pick a lower option, at only 94.19%.
Summary
Smooth Sailing looks good overall, but a lot of its focus is on that Connectify Pays mechanic, which is tasked with the delivery of the biggest prizes. If you’re not a fan of this system, the game is not going to be all that interesting.
