- I like the Unlock bonuses with more multiplier in them
- Some players will find the $16 max bet to low
- The high volatility will be to risky for some players
One of the most popular slots in Microgaming’s collection is getting a sequel, and it keeps the action in the same Nordic mythology realm that has helped make the first titles fun for so many players. Thunderstruck: Wild Lightning goes with a cosmic sort of background image, so you’re seeing just the stars, but the symbols shown on the reels are somewhat more appropriate.
Thunderstruck: Wild Lightning starts us off with the mix of Royals, symbols that have the letters typed up on the side of rocks. We then get the so-called thunderballs, which appear to be elemental in nature (there are versions colored in nature green, fire red, gold, blue, and purple).
Developer
Microgaming didn’t design this sequel themselves. They just passed the task to one of their many partners, and in this case the chosen one was Stormcraft Studios. They did an excellent job here, just like they did before with several slots from the Break Away series, or with Fortunium Gold Mega Moolah.
How To Play Thunderstruck: Wild Lightning Demo Slot
A minimum bet in Thunderstruck: Wild Lightning will start from $0.20, which means that it uses 10 coins of $0.02 each. Increase the coins per line, and the coin size, and you could have up to $16 wagered in a single spin.
As you’d expect, you need to form combinations of 3 or more symbols, a standard way of getting people paid in 5-reel slots. You get 40 active lines on those 5 reels
Special Features
An important feature of Thunderstruck: Wild Lightning, come through the Link & Win respins. Triggered when 6+ thunderballs are in view, this feature will allow the game area to expand as you collect additional symbols. At 15, 20, 25, and then 30 symbols collected, you unlock rows 5 through 8. The respins reset with each new thunderball symbol that lands. A jackpot of up to 15,000x the stake can be paid here.
Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer, is going to be the one showing up in the scatter symbol that will lead to the free spins feature. You also get a prize here, but the real target is on one of the several types of free spins. You start with one type, and then you unlock the rest once you trigger the feature enough times.
- Jotunheim: 15 spins with 2x-5x wild multipliers;
- Vanaheim: 12 spins with 2x-6x wild multipliers;
- Alfheim: 9 spins with 3x-8x wild multipliers;
- Nidavellir: 6 spins with 5x-12x wild multipliers;
- Svartalfheim: 1 spin where up to 5 reels are turned into full wilds.
That last one, the single free spin with the Wildstorm feature, can only trigger once you collect 20 pairs of scatters. If you do that before you trigger the free spins, then you will have this option unlocked. It resets right after that.
For the duration of the free games, you can get wilds to land on the middle reels, and activate their positions. When additional wilds land there, they expand for the current spin.
Wild symbols are available at all times, and they can be a lot more valuable during free spins, as you’ve seen. Even in the base game, they will apply 2x or 5x multipliers, and they can land stacked, so they’re quite powerful.
Maximum Payouts
Up to 15,000x the stake is paid in a single spin of Thunderstruck: Wild Lightning, especially if you can get the Link & Win feature to deliver at its fullest. Highly volatile, the game comes with a 96.10% RTP.
Summary
Thunderstruck: Wild Lightning is an excellent successor to a couple of games that were very important for Microgaming over the last decade or so. It looks like this one has the potential to be just as good.
