Theme of The Game
The Toro series has several excellent slot machines in it already, and Elk Studios is preparing to add one more title to it. This time, it’s a Book-style slot machine, so they integrated the matador and the bull into an Ancient Egypt design. Taking us inside a pyramid or ancient temple, we see golden pottery and several sarcophagi.
That same Ancient Egypt themed design comes in the slot’s symbols, so we find Egyptian-styled Royals on one side, and on the other premium symbols showing scarabs, Horus, Eye of Ra, and the Adventurer. Additional symbols are the ones showing us the Toro Wild and Book of Toro.
Developer
ELK Studios is a developer that you should be paying attention to. With great graphics, a long list of features, and often enough a good RTP (mostly in their older slots), their games tend to get your attention when you see them.

Special Features
While the Book category has inspired this slot machine, there are certain elements which are different. They’ve built on the original, they didn’t just clone it.
One example of this comes from the fact that there are three types of wilds that you can get, compared with just one in the usual Book slots. You can use these as replacements when they land on the right line, regardless of the type of wild that you get.
Triggering Toro Wild Respins is possible when you get the Toro Wild on the 5th reel. It’s a Walking Wild, which starts moving towards the left side of the game area, while you’re going through respins. Once it leaves the reels, the respins stop. There is a chance that Toro will go wild, if a Mummy lands on the reels during respins. It will charge it, and the symbol positions it goes through will become wilds themselves.
Mummy Respins can be obtained whenever you have 2+ Mummies on the reels. Respins continue if you can get additional Mummies, but the real aim is to get a Toro symbol at some point, so that they can go wild.
Another type of wild is the Book, which is a scatter as well. It will have to land 3 to 5 times, in order to trigger 10 to 20 free spins. This is where the usual Book mechanics come in. You get a special symbol, chosen at random from the regulars, and it will expand whenever it appears. If you get 3+ on the reels, they can form combinations on all lines. Extra special symbols are obtained by retriggering this feature.
Maximum Payouts
They’ve improved the payouts which are possible as well, so you can claim a top jackpot worth 10,000x the stake from Book of Toro, and you’re using just 10 active lines to do it.
Volatility-wise, it’s on the medium to high side, which is fine for a Book-style game. The part that’s not OK, is the 95% RTP that’s used for it. There are a lot of Book clones out there, at 96% or higher for their RTP, so it’s just a shame that the modern and improved version wasn’t designed with that same return.
Summary
Book of Toro is a great game if we go by what it offers feature and design wise, a fun addition to the Book category. Its RTP, at only 95%, is a major issue though, and one that will keep a lot of players away.
