Introduction
For me personally, one of the most interesting providers today is No Limit City. The games they produce are very unique, deviating from the classic norms in the industry. You can like them or hate them, but you have to admit they are original. One of those games is Dead Canary.
The first time I saw this slot I was thinking about what it going on here. I had no idea how the payouts worked, nor what any of the symbols did. Things became a bit clearer after reading the game rules, but I truly saw the designer’s vision once I started playing the game. This may be the case for many other players, and I’m sure many became fans after playing Dead Canary for a few sessions.
Who will enjoy this game?
If you want to try an original slot, with unusual features to say the least, Dead Canary may be the right slot for you. The unusual design will catch your attention at first sight and you are guaranteed to have loads of fun playing the slot. The best part is the game can pay up to 65,000 your bet, which is a payout every player would want to see.
How to Play Dead Canary
When you start the game for the first time you will see a 3x4x3x4x3x4 grid. Matching adjacent symbols are needed to score a payout, with the ways to win ranging from 36 to 1,728. The bets in Dead Canary can be from $0.20 to $100 per spin. When you decide to start playing locate and click the Spin button. You can also activate the turbo play feature, as well as the Auto Play for up to 1,000 spins.
A Decade of Playing Slots
Yup, been playing the slots for over a decade and wagered hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is why not too many things can surprise me in this industry. But I have to admit when I saw this game and a few others from No Limit City I was taken aback. They are nothing like the slots I am used to playing from other providers. An acquired taste is needed to like them, and since most are highly volatile, a bigger bankroll.
My Own Experience Playing Dead Canary
I would love to start this section by saying Dead Canary is one of the few slots where I have hit the maximum payout. Sadly, this is not the case, or I would be chilling on some sandy beach at the moment. But I did have some nice wins in this slot. Truth be told most of them came from buying the bonus at a price of 500x the stake, so the actual profit is smaller. The top payout at the moment stands at 3,600x the stake on a $2 bet. I can’t really complain as it was a big win and I was excited to see it on my screen. But I do hope that in some future session, Dead Canary will be even more generous.
Bonus Features and Payouts
Well, the first thing you notice is that the bottom 3 rows are blocked. Once a win is formed there’s an explosion, with the winning symbols removed and the rest of the symbols falling down and moving to the left. The row below is unlocked and new symbols drop on top to fill in the spaces.
On any spin, the Wild Mining feature can be triggered, when 3, 4, or 5 matching symbols align diagonally, without forming a win. The symbols are removed and a Wild bomb is created in the middle position. For 3, 4, or 5 matching symbols, you will get 1, 2, and 3 Wild Bombs. If there is another collapse the win multiplier from the Wild bombs increases by 1.
Free Spins Bonus
For the free spins bonus, you must land three Scattered Canaries anywhere on the reels. There is no predefined number of free spins and the Canaries can come in a Gold Cage or in a Silver Cage. They will stay in position for the entire feature. The difference between the Wild is that the silver one collects all values in an x shape only 1 position from itself, while the golden one collects from the entire row. The scatters start with a value of x1 and can collect all of the extra multipliers, coins, and upgrades, as well as the Dwarf and Rat.
All scatters start with 3 lives. A life is lost when a bomb explodes next to the scatter. If all 3 lives are lost the values that the scatter collected are added to the win meter on the right side of the reels. You get 3 re-spins and each time a dynamite hits the reels the number is reset to 3.
The Dwarf symbol acts as a persistent collector. It can be picked up by a scatter, replacing it in its cage. Once it dies the Canary re-spawns in its place.
The Rat can also be picked up by the Scatter. It acts as a persistent payer, adding its value to the rest of the scatter symbols in each spin.
I think by now you see how the game works in general and how it can pay so big. The designers also give you a chance to instantly trigger the feature. You can buy the Silver Canary free spins feature for a price of 68x the stake. The Golden Canary free spins on the other hand come at a hefty price of 500x the stake. You can also go for the lucky draw at a price of 284x the stake and you may get some Golden Scatters.
Comparison with Other slots
Dead Canary is a slot that you can’t really compare to other games. The design is unique, while some of the features can be found in some other games. I can recommend Money Train and some other No Limit City slots like Mental, The Crypt, or Folsom Prison.
Benefits and Drawbacks
The first obvious benefit I see in Dead Canary is the maximum payout potential. A whopping 65kx the stake is not something to miss out on. Slots are games of chance so you never know when that max win will land. On the other hand, the 500x the stake bonus buy for the Golden Canaries is just too high.
Our Conclusion
Dead Canary follows the same principle as most other No Limit City slots. They are unusual in design, come with great bonus features, and have the potential for big payout. They are ultra-volatile games, so to play them and make some profit you will need a big bankroll. But one massive hit can cover all of your investments and leave you with a hefty profit. Hopefully, it will happen at one of our recommended real money casinos.
