It’s the usual ice covered landscape, now with a Nordic style set of symbols, apparently inspired by the Vikings and their culture. You see Royals in some of the lesser positions, but the better ones get things like hammers, shields, axes, dragons, deer or eagles, all of them made out of gold. A good overall design, in line with the usual Elk slots.
This one comes via Elk Studios, a developer that’s been growing very well over the last couple of years, and it’s thanks to the quality of their games that this was possible. Some of the interesting games that you will find in their collection include the likes of Voodoo Gold, Tahiti Gold, Platooners or Win Win, among plenty of others. They craft beautiful designs for their games, with fun features for the most part, and exciting top payouts.
How To Play It
With the Elk Studios releases, the betting system seems to always be the same. It relies on 100 coins, so whatever bet you choose in the range of $0.20 to $100, you split it by that number to find out how much each one is worth. The presence of betting strategies is another thing that’s typical of all their slots, and it allows the game to adjust wagers based on your performance inside.
This is not a typical slot machine, when it comes to the layout which is being offered. You start off with 6×3 reels and 729 ways to win, but you are able to expand the game area along the way, up to 6×7 reels with up to 74,088 ways to win. Either way, if you’ve been around the gaming industry for a while, you probably know every feature that’s included, there is nothing truly unique or unusual here.
As I mentioned above, you get 6×3 reels initially, but with additional rows at the top which are covered by ice. In order to give the game area a boost, you need to unlock the iced symbols, by forming combinations. The unlocked positions remain yours to use for as long as you keep winning, and new ones will also become available each time this happens. Once you stop your winning streak, the ice comes back down and you start over from 6×3 reels.
The rounds with additional rows of symbols are part of Respin Mode, which triggers with winning combinations.
Ice Wolf symbols will show up with their wolf pack, which takes away the ice from the covered positions, with wilds left in their trail. A respin is also provided, to go with that larger game area.
Clear the ice completely, and you get a 7th row of symbols, where you can land wild symbols, up to 50x multipliers, or additional respins.
As far as payout potential goes, Ice Wolf could’ve done better than 2,500x total stake, so that’s one area where I’m not completely satisfied. Still, it’s a top payout of $250,000 that becomes possible thanks to the game, and that’s nothing to sneeze at.
The volatility of Ice Wolf is at 8 out of 10, so it’s a medium to high level, risky enough for a slot machine, so mostly recommended for players that can handle the bumpy ride. RTP wise, it’s looking alright, though 96.10% is not a great number, just an average one.
I like what Elk Studios did with Ice Wolf, the game is fun to play and it looks like it could have some serious potential, so I’m not happy with their decision to place the cap at 2,500x.
