My Own Experience Playing Unusual Suspects

Unfortunately, Unusual Suspects is still not live across real money online casinos. The game will be released on 13, 2023. This is disappointing since I really wanted to try the game in real money play before writing this review. However, I have been playing and testing this game in demo mode. I like the features, how the game works, and the max payout of 8,000x your bet. Once Unusual Suspects goes live, it’s at the top of my list of slots to try for real money play. 

Bonus Features and Payouts

Unusual Suspects comes with two separate wilds. The first is the standard Wild, and the second is the Gold Wild. When the Gold Wild lands on the screen, it will add anywhere from 1 to 8 additional wilds across the reels. If he adds another Gold Wild, it will spawn additional wilds on the screen. 

When a Wild lands on a position on the reels, that position becomes marked. If another Wild lands in that frame, a x2 multiplier is added to that frame. The multiplier increases each time a Wild lands in that frame, up to a maximum of x5. 

When the Detective Wild lands on the reels, it will add Wilds to all currently active frames. After this happens, the frames are removed, and the game continues normally. The frames stay active during the free spins bonus for all spins, and Wilds are added in them each time the Detective lands on the screen. 

Free Spins Bonus

The scatter can land on any reel, triggering the free spins bonus. Every time 2 Scatters land on the screen, they are added to the Free Spins Booster Meter on top of the reels. You need to collect 50 of them to unlock the first Boss. 

If two scatters land on the first three rows on the reels, they will nudge down one position in each spin while the rest of the reels re-spin. This continues until you get the third scatter or until the scatter leaves the screen. This nice mini-feature gives you an extra chance to trigger the feature. 

The bonus is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters on the screen. You get 10, 15, or 20 free spins. Each time you collect 3 Detectives, you get additional 5 free spins, and the multiplier increases by 1. The first level unlocks the x2 multi, the second one the x3 multi, the third one the x5 multi, and the last one comes with a hefty x10 win multiplier. 

You can also buy the bonus round at any time for only 38.6x the stake. But you can also use the gamble button for a price of 19.30 to gamble whether the bonus round will be triggered or not. The chances of triggering it are 50%. So, this is a great but risky option to use when you want to avoid paying the full cost of the feature. 

Comparison with Other slots

The bonus round in Unusual Suspects is quite similar to the ones in the Big Bass series of slots. The levels progression works the same, as well as the multipliers increase. All you need is to collect as many Detectives as possible, preferably with many Wilds across the screen. With some luck on your side, you can easily get to a decent payout.  

Benefits and Drawbacks

The biggest drawback in Unusual Suspects for me is the weak paytable. Landing five wilds on a winning pay line brings you a payout of only 20x the stake. So, this means that on the top x10 level, you are looking at a payout of 200x the stake per spin. However, this is hard to get, and you will need a lot of luck on your side to make it happen. On the other hand, I love the gamble option for triggering the free spins bonus. This way, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to trigger the feature. 

Our Conclusion

Unusual Suspects is, without a doubt, going on my list of must-try real money slots once it goes live across online casinos. The game has a lot to offer and is perfect for playing looking for medium volatility slots . Buying the feature doesn’t cost much, but the gamble option makes it even cheaper. I did use the gamble option many times in my tests. The low cost made it possible for me to cover the cost and end up in profit. I didn’t manage to hit some massive payout, but the gamble option for the bonus combined with high bets can produce some big  profit if you’re lucky.
