I have to say that Peter & Sons is a slot developer under Yggdrasil Gaming I value more and more. They are constantly increasing their slots portfolio and have some great games on offer. When I have the time, I always try to play a few of their games and see what they’re about. Many times, I’m pleasantly surprised and by now I already have a list of my favorite slots from this provider.

The most recent one I came across is Animafia. The name of the slot sounded interesting so I had to give it a try. As expected, the game has a mafia theme, but with different animals as the main culprits. But what I like the most about this slot is the bonus round. It’s quite interesting and with some luck on your side, you can land some nice payouts. The slot volatility isn’t too high, so the bonus round seems fairly easy to land.

How to Play Animafia

For this slot the designers decided to go with 40 active paylines, stretching across 5 reels and 5 rows. The betting in Animafia starts at $0.20 to $50 per spin, which is a decent range for all types of players. Once you settle the bet size just click on the spin icon or use the Auto Play feature. You can also activate the Golden Bet for a price of 20 extra coins per spin. This will double your chances of hitting the bonus round. For me, this is a fair price and I feel it really does help in triggering the feature more often.

I still can’t say that I had some monster slot wins on Animafia. Even though the feature is relatively easy to trigger via the Golden Bet, those big wins are hard to get. I have yet to reach the last level in the free spins and so far my biggest win is only around 600x the stake. But I know the slot has the potential for much bigger wins, so I hope to see them on my screen someday soon.

Bonus Features and Payouts

In Animafia during base play, several random features can be triggered on any given spin. You can trigger the Random Wilds feature, which awards anywhere from 4 to 15 Wilds across the reels. The Expanding Wilds feature will cover an entire reel with Wilds can appear on all 5 reels. The last is the Monster Wild feature. Here you get wilds that can cover anywhere from 1×2 to a 5×5 grid. Of course, you want the 5×5 Monster Wild to land as it can bring the biggest payouts.

During base play, you can notice the collection meter on top of the reels. You need to collect scatters here, which come only on reels 2, 3, and 4 only. Every time you land one or two scatters they are added to the meter on top of the reels.

Free Spins Bonus

If you land 3 scatters you instantly trigger the free spins. In the bonus, you can get 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, or 20 free spins, depending on how much the meter is full. If you fill it all the way and you land 3 scatters on the reels you instantly get the max 20 free spins.

During the feature, you get a persistent roaming wild on each spin. It starts at tier one covering a 1×1 grid. But as you collect scatters the tier will increase. Eventually, the persistent roaming wild will cover the maximum 5×5 grid on the reels.

If you want you can buy the bonus round at any time. To get 6 free games you will need to spend 50x your stake. For the maximum 20 free spins, you will need to pay 150x your stake. You can also opt-in for a random number of free spins for a price of 100x the stake.

Comparison with Other slots

For me, Animafia has a somewhat similar feature to Juicy Fruits by Pragmatic Play. In the bonus round in this game you also have a Wild that grows in size by collecting scattered Diamonds and you also get extra free spins. Benefits and Drawbacks

Well, I like a lot of things in Animafia. Base play wins are decent and the feature seems easy to trigger, especially with the Golden Bet option activated. But getting to the higher tiers in the feature many times seems like a mission impossible. Usually, you reach tier 2 or maybe tier 3 and you end up with a payout a bit over 100x the stake. Maybe this is just my luck with Animafia, but I would expect it to be easier for those mega-wins to land on the screen.

Our Conclusion

Overall, Animafia is a decent slot from Peter & Sons. It has a lot to offer in terms of features and comes with an attractive design and visuals. The free spins are my favorite part of the game and I like the fact that there is a Golden Bet option available. The cost is only 20 coins per spin, which is just a fifth of the bet. In most slots, the Golden Bet comes with a price of 25 coins.

The feature has the potential for some big wins to land, but they are hard to get. I hope that my luck will change on this slot as I battle the online casinos, but who knows? Maybe the animal mafia is not too keen on parting with their hard-earned money just yet.
