How to Play Katmandu X

In this slot, the designers used a 6×6 grid. There are no paylines on the reels, instead, you have a cluster pays design. Over the years I’ve had a chance to play many interesting games. Katmandu X is certainly one of them, as are many other slots from Elk Studios. My Own Experience Playing Katmandu X

The first time I saw this game I was instantly drawn to it. The Katmandu Gold slot from Elk Studios was a favourite of mine for a long time, so I had to see what Katmandu X was about. I have to say I was not disappointed. The game is very fun to play and the bonus rounds can pay big. So far I only had a chance to give it a try a few times, but I already managed to land a 700x the stake payout. I have to admit I was pretty lucky to land it as I managed to spin in the Super Bonus. I know the game can pay much more and will definitely keep on trying. Hopefully, that mega payout will land soon, justifying the funds I put in this game.

 

Bonus Features and Payouts

Katmandu X is a cluster pays slot, meaning you need at least 5 matching symbols to connect horizontally or vertically for a win to be achieved. When this happens the symbols that are involved in the win are removed from the screen and additional ones drop down from the top of the screen.

Everything in the game revolves around the Wild symbols. The regular Wild replaces all other paying symbols. You can also land the Multiplier Wild, which will replace all symbols, except another wild and the special symbols. The Exploding Wild will destroy all of the symbols around it at the end of the spin when no more wins occur. This way he sets a chain reaction, giving you another chance to land a win on the screen.

If you get more than one multiplier wild to contribute to a win the total multiplier is applied to the payout. The total multiplier is applied to all wins on the screen. You can see the current multiplier value on the top of the reels. Each time an exploding wild symbol contributes to a payout it increases the total multiplier by 1.

Another interesting detail about the game is the Super, Mega and Epic symbols. They can land covering a 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 positions on the grid. In return, they count as 4, 9 and 16 standard symbols. Combined with the total multiplier one of these symbols alone can bring a big payout to the reels.

If you get a big symbol to drop on the screen after an avalanche, it will crush all of the standard 1×1 symbols as it drops to the bottom of the reels. Symbols that are the same kind will remain whole, as well as all bonus, drop and wild symbols.

Another interesting feature is the Wild Strike. It will replace the targeted symbols with Wilds, Multiplier Wilds or Exploding Wilds. If the targeted symbols are Big Symbols, they will be replaced with regular Wilds.

Free Spins Bonus

When you manage to land 3 bonus symbols anywhere on the reels you are awarded 7 free spins. For the duration of the feature, the total multiplier is persistent. This means it can only grow and doesn’t reset once you hit a non-winning spin on the screen. You can also get extra free spins by landing additional free drop symbols on the screen.

If you manage to land one super bonus and 2 bonus symbols in a single spin you trigger the Super Bonus. Here you get a guaranteed Super Wild Strike at the start of every spin. If you don’t want to wait for the feature to be triggered you can always use the X-iter option. It allows you to buy the regular bonus for a price of 100x or the Super Bonus for a price of 500x.

Comparison with Other slots

I already mentioned Katmandu Gold at the start of the article, so for me, this would be the best comparison with Katmandu X. Both of the games have a great set of bonus features and can pay big. You can give them both a try and see which one you like better.

Benefits and Drawbacks

I generally like everything about Elk Studios slots, except for two detail. The 1st is the 500x cost to buy the super bonus. For me, this is way too much, even though this is where the game has the biggest potential for massive wins. But the high cost makes it unavailable for the regular player, who often plays with a bankroll to cover 2-300 spins. 2ndly Elk studios slots often have a RTP below industry average of 96% which is also the case with Katmandu X . Other than that I think that Katmandu X is a great game in every way.
