Odin: Protector of Realms
Theme of The Game
As a Cluster Pays slot machine, Odin: Protector of Realms doesn’t look like most games you’re likely to find right now, but it’s not a completely unique design either. It relies on a hexagonal-shaped game area, with 37 symbols landing on it each round. The inspiration comes from Odin, leader of the Nordic gods, and the protector of the realms, as the title says.
Moving on to its major symbols, the game will deliver icons showing various weapons and objects that have a clear origin in Nordic culture, including here swords, hammers, shields, and drinking horns. The lesser symbols, meaning that they pay less, will give us runes colored in red, blue, purple, or green. A wild is also incorporated, showing the trident-like tip of Odin’s spear.
More than 230 slot machines available right now, with about 50 new ones being released each year, that’s the sort of game collection that Play n GO has. They’ve been around for a long time, since 1997, and they managed to reach the industry’s top positions. It’s one of the biggest providers of online slot machines, though they have a few dozen games of other types as well (card games, roulette, etc).
How To Play It
You’re going to find the betting options at the bottom, and they go from a minimum of $0.20, to a maximum bet of $100 per spin.
In exchange, you get access to the entire game area, and its 37 symbols. It’s a Cluster Pays engine, so it forms winning clusters when there are 5 or more matching symbols next to each other. The best prizes are paid for clusters of 35+ symbols.
Once you do form a cluster of symbols, and you get paid, the game will follow up with a cascading reels mechanic. The winning symbols will be removed, so that new ones can fall down in the empty positions. The reactions continue, if you keep getting new wins as a result.
The winning symbols that are collected through those reactions, will be added to special Ring meters. You get the Bronze Forged Ring when you have 30 symbols, the Silver one for 70 symbols, and the Gold Ring for 120 symbols collected in a single round.
Depending on the Ring you’ve forged, you get a cluster of 7, 12-19, or 20-37 matching symbols, in the middle of the game area. This guarantees you a win, and there is even a chance that it will be the top symbol occupying all positions on the reels (it uses the symbol present in the middle of the game area).
There is a wild to help you there, acting as a substitute that will be incorporated in any new cluster formed next to it.
There is also a random feature, which Odin himself triggers, giving you one of the following modifiers:
- Wisdom: upgrades the central symbol to a wild or high value symbol (useful for the Forged Ring feature).
- Power: picks two random symbols and destroys them, when you’re close to a full charge on the meter.
- Glory: adds 2 to 8 wilds on the reels, only during losing spins.
With a 5,000x jackpot, only medium volatility, and a Return to Player as high as 96.20%, I’m quite satisfied with the way the math works in Odin: Protector of Realms. The RTP could be lower as well, it’s up to the casino, so check with them or look at the help files before you start playing.
Odin: Protector of Realms can pay extremely well, particularly for a slot machine where the risk is considered medium. I enjoyed its features as well, and I think you will feel the same way.
