Theme of The Game
Silverback Gold’s theme is inspired by gorillas, but the title already gives that away. We’re seeing a dense jungle in the background, as the game loads up, but soon after we get a set of 5×4 reels to cover most of it up. It’s a very good design, the likes of which NetEnt has gotten us used to through the hundreds of great slots that they’ve released so far.
You see it in the symbols as well, even though some of them are going to rely on images of letters and numbers that represent Royals (9 to A). The better ones show off images of birds, snakes, leopards, crocodiles, and of the Silverback Gorilla, in both regular and golden form. Sunset Wilds and Shield scatters will complete that image.
Developer
The slot comes from NetEnt, a major developer of online slot machines, which has been active in this space since the 90s. They were acquired by Red Tiger in recent years, and while we haven’t seen as many new games from them since, they’re still capable of great things. Just check out any of their recent slots, and you will see what I mean.
How To Play Silverback Gold
To get started in Silverback Gold, you need to select a bet, and it can be any value from the given range of $0.10 to $100.
Spinning 5×4 reels, Silverback Gold comes up with 1024 ways to win. Those are potential combinations that you can form, the equivalent of regular paylines from other slots. You need those 3 or more symbols of the same type, landing left to right, but it doesn’t matter where on the reels they show up.
Special Features
An important feature in this case, is the Sunset Wild. It’s a symbol that can show up in both regular and multiplier form (only during free spins). Either way, whether it boosts prizes by 2x-3x or not at all, it can be relied upon to be a substitute for all combinations forming on its reel (it can contribute to all of them, thanks to the ways to win).
Silverback Attack is a random feature, which you can get at any point. It adds 6 to 20 of the Silverback symbols on the reels, which can lead to excellent prizes. It’s even better during free games, if you can get the Golden Silverbacks instead.
With the Shield scatters appearing on 3 or more reels, the slot can trigger 10 to 20 free games. There is a bonus feature that comes first though, where you get 3 spins, during which you use triggering symbols turned into token prizes, along with any new ones that may land. Up to 25 tokens may come from each of those symbols. The spins reset to 3, whenever new tokens land, so this is a type of feature that’s inspired by Hold & Win respins.
Once the free spins start, you will use the tokens you’ve collected in the bonus game, to upgrade certain types of symbols to top-paying Silverbacks. If you get to 300 tokens, then the Silverbacks get upgraded further, to Golden variants.
As mentioned above, multiplier wilds are available here, boosting prizes by 2x or 3x, when they contribute to new wins.
The free spins can also retrigger, via 2-5 more scatters, which gets you 3 to 20 more rounds.
Maximum Payouts
Silverback Gold will have the ability to pay very well, as it comes with a top jackpot of up to 45,000x the stake. The slot’s RTP is pretty good, up to 96.10%, but you should also expect high volatility from it.
Summary
Silverback Gold has an intricate and interesting collection of special features, which you will have fun exploring. I wouldn’t go in as a beginner though, this is a volatile game, and it will be risky for the average player.
