Introduction
Wanted Dead or a Wild is one of my favorite and at the same time one of the most hated slots I have ever played from Hacksaw Gaming. The reason for this is the high volatility. Sometimes I can hit the bonus round within 100 spins and hit a big win. Other times I can get absolutely rinsed losing all of my balance without a bonus round in sight.
But truth be told when Wanted Dead or a Wild pays, it often pays big. You can hit a mega win in a single spin and it will make up for the losses from the previous 20 sessions. This is why I always recommend playing this game very carefully and never going all in. It’s a highly volatile slot like these and you can easily lose a lot of money playing it if you’re not careful.
Who will enjoy this game?
This slot can easily be liked by all players. It has an interesting design, great visuals, and a soundtrack and comes with a plethora of bonus rounds. Overall, it’s an exciting slot to play and you can hit big wins on its reels. This is probably why Wanted Dead or a Wild is one of the most popular names in the Hacksaw portfolio.
How to Play Wanted Dead or a Wild
This slot comes with 5 reels and 5 rows. There are only 15 active paylines and their number is fixed. The bets range from $0.20 as the minimum, all the way up to $100 as the maximum. The rest of the options are classic to the rest of the Hacksaw slots. To play the game you need the Spin button, while the Auto Play option allows you to play up to 1,000 auto spins. You also have the Turbo and the recognizable Super Turbo features if you want the reels to spin fast.
A Decade of Playing Slots
Slots have always been my domain and I don’t think I will ever stop playing them. They are very fun to play and you can hit some big payouts along the way. Over the years I’ve tried many slots and I still play many of them today. After a while, you come up with a list of slots that you try pretty much in every session. Personally, I have a list of slots I play on every occasion. Whether it’s to hit a big win, wager a bonus, or simply play for a longer time. Depends on my current mood and my goal at the casino.
My Own Experience Playing Wanted Dead or a Wild
As I said at the start with Wanted Dead or a Wild I have a real love and hate relationship. Overall it’s a great slot that’s really fun to play and can bring big wins in the bonus rounds. But the volatility can be an absolute horror at times. This is why I try to play this slot with money I am ready to lose. If I have an extra $100 on my bankroll I give it a try for 200 spins. If I don’t hit a bonus round in those spins I simply move on and maybe I give it another try later on.
Bonus Features and Payouts
The most exciting part of the game is the VS symbols. Every time one of them lands on a reel it will expand to cover it in full length. The VS symbol acts as a Wild, so you get a Wild Reel. You can also land 5 of them on the screen, granting you a full screen of Wilds. But that’s not all.
The VS symbols also come with win multipliers. They can range anywhere from x2 to x100. If more Wilds contributes to the win, the values are summed up and used for the end payout. Landing 5 wilds on a winning payline brings a win of 20x the stake.
Free Spins Bonus
When a trio of Duel symbols hits the screen you instantly trigger the Duel at Dawn feature. Here you get 10 free spins, where on each one you have a higher chance to land the VS symbols. Once a VS lands on the reel it expands and the two cowboys at the end of the reel get into a shootout. The one who survives keeps the multiplier on his end, while the other one disappears. Naturally, you want the higher multiplier to always win.
Landing at least 3 Dead symbols triggers the Dead Man’s Hand feature. Here you need to collect a large number of Win Multipliers and Wilds. You get initially 3 free spins, but each time a Wild or a Multi appears the number resets to 3.
Once the free spins end you go to the second stage of the bonus. Here you also get 3 free spins, with the number of collected wilds awarded on the reels. Once the free spins end the winnings are multiplied with the total collected multiplier.
The last feature of the game is The Great Train Robbery, triggered with 3 or more Train symbols on the screen. Here you get 10 free spins, where each wild that lands on the screen remains sticky for the duration of the bonus.
All of the features above can be instantly bought via the Bonus Buy button. To buy the Great Train Robbery feature you will need to spend 80x the stake, 200x the stake for Duel at Dawn, and 400x the stake for Dead Man’s Hand. The Duel at Dawn feature has the highest volatility of all 3 features.
Comparison with Other slots
I don’t think I have seen another slot with the same collection of features as Wanted Dead or a Wild. But Hacksaw has a lot of great games on offer for you to try. I would personally recommend Dark Summoning, Pug Life, and Stack Em. These are all great slots that can pay big in the feature.
Benefits and Drawbacks
The biggest benefit of Wanted Dead or a Wild for me is the fact that you can buy all 3 features whenever you want. This is great for players like me, who don’t want to wait for the bonus to land and would prefer to take their chances in the bonus buys.
Our Conclusion
Wanted Dead or a Wild is without a doubt a great slot from the Hacksaw Gaming collection. It has an interesting appearance, and exciting gameplay and comes with 3 bonus rounds. Each of the features can pay big and they are all exciting to try. You can also buy them at any time, which is great news for players with a bigger bankroll. The game is volatile, but I still like to give it a try at our favorite online casinos and hopefully someday I will hit that elusive maximum payout.
