Beat the Beast: Cerberus Inferno

A series that has proven to be quite popular for Thunderkick, Beat the Beast continues with a third release, called Cerberus Inferno. It’s more of a hellish design compared with the previous games, which had us confront the Sphinx and a Kraken, but the design quality is just as good, and the game is interesting to watch.
I’m not a big fan of the Royals being used as symbols on its reels, though they’re not completely bad here. The themed symbols range from pottery, to weapons, three-headed beasts, a Greek soldier’s helmet, or gold coins with stylized version of Cerberus. Finally, the top symbol has Cerberus the three-headed dog, colored in blue and surrounded by flames.

Developer
The series that we’re looking at, Beat the Beast, is one of Thunderkick’s best collection of games, but not the only one. Plenty of other fun slots have been designed by this company in the past, including here my own favorites, oldies like Barber Shop, or newer titles like Pink Elephants 2.
How To Play It
The bottom row of options holds a Bet section, which can be used to access the betting screen. You have a range to choose from there, with values between $0.10 and $100, the usual ones which all Thunderkick games offer.
The 5×3 reels of Cerberus Inferno give us only 9 active lines, so creating winning combinations isn’t that easy. 2-3 or more symbols of the same type (depending on which symbol does it), left to right on a payline, will be required to get a combo formed.
Special Features
The Cerberus Emblem is both your wild and scatter, so it has a couple of ways in which it can assist. As a substitute, it will combine with regular symbols from the same line, to create winning combinations when possible.
When used as a scatter, meaning when it is present at least three times on the reels, you can get paid up to 200x the stake. The wild/scatter can only appear once on each reel.
There are also 10 free spins that you can get, the requirement being for the same 3+ Cerberus Emblems to appear. This is a feature that can retrigger as well. What makes them truly interesting, is that the game area turns to a system with 243 ways to win, replacing the 9 lines of the base game.
A secondary wild exists, which is dedicated to this purpose, and which is also stacked and capable of taking over a reel. This one has the image of the W logo.
Maximum Payouts
Beat the Beast: Cerberus Inferno can deliver a top jackpot that is custom-made for the theme it offers, since it can pay you up to 6,666x the stake. Of course, to get that kind of reward you will need to reach the free spins stage first, where a lot more combinations can form (243 vs the 9 of the base game). Otherwise, regular combinations will offer up to 150x the stake per line, so the base game doesn’t go higher than 1,350x the stake.
In a game which pays that much, volatility is High typically, and that’s what we’re seeing here as well. 96.15% is the RTP, and I’m happy with that figure, though not ecstatic.
Summary
Cerberus Inferno is a great addition to Beat the Beast, a slot with High volatility that I wouldn’t recommend to beginners of the online casinos.
