Theme of The Game
Thunderkick has always been an impressive developer, and one of the main reasons why players love their games is because they look so good. They’ve also managed to offer a lot of original themes over the years, and while that’s not the case with the pirate-inspired story from Shifting Seas, at least they did a great job with its graphics. The story places the action and the reels somewhere next to a couple of tropical islands, in the middle of the ocean.
Looking at those unusual 6 reels, with 2 to 4 symbols present on them, you get a bunch of symbols that you’re not likely to be crazy about, such as the half a dozen Royals, from the 9 to the A. We’re also seeing images of parrots, three pirates, and a treasure chest overflowing with gold and holding an impressive ruby at the top.
Developer
You might not get a unique story in Shifting Seas, but there are plenty of other slot machines from Thunderkick which score points in those areas. I’d mention among those slots like Esqueleto Explosivo (1 and 2), Babushkas, Pink Elephants, Sword of Khans, or Wild Heist at Peacock Mansion.
How To Play It Shifting Seas Slot Machine
When you’re starting out, a wager of at least $0.10 needs to be selected for the upcoming spin. A bet of up to $100 can be selected, but I would only recommend it if you can sustain that kind of investment over multiple spins.
Shifting Seas gives you 576 ways to win at first, using a setup with 4-4-3-3-2-2 symbols, so there are 6 reels in total. 3 to 6 symbols on adjacent reels, left to right, will bring you prizes via new combinations.
Special Features
The Avalanche is one of the things that will occur when a new combo forms. The symbols get removed if they were involved in combinations, leaving room for others to drop and maybe contribute to new wins.
Once an Avalanche is over, the reels will Shift to the left, removing the 6th reel and adding a new set of symbols on the 1st reel. You’re getting rid of a symbol with 2 symbols at first, and getting one with 5 symbols, so the game area gets bigger. If you can get multiple Avalanches in this manner, the reels will keep getting bigger, until you end up with 7 symbols on all 6 reels (117,649 ways to win can be active). This sort of reel boost can also happen through the Boost Shift.
The game has wilds on its reels, and they can trigger a Special Wild feature when they’re part of wins or when they’re removed from the 6th reel.
A random Symbol Rush gives you between 4 and 8 matching symbols, which take the place of random symbols.
There is a way to get multiple wilds on the reels, up to 3 of them, when the Wild Surge transforms regular symbols.
For access to the bonus game, you need the bonus symbols pushed off screen. You receive 8 free games then, with the chance to get 4 more rounds each time a new bonus symbol gets removed through Shift Wins. In this mode, you can get random Wild Reels, which move to the left and get an increase in multiplier each time a Shift Win occurs.
Maximum Payouts
For the most part, Shifting Seas does a decent job where payouts are concerned. You can claim a 15,000x jackpot through it, and while the volatility is high, the RTP could get as high as 96.19% (the RTP range also has lower values though).
Summary
Shifting Seas looks good overall, and it’s a slot machine that I would recommend if you’re into complex games. It’s not a typical release, but that can work in its favor.
