Introduction
Hacksaw Gaming has a lot of great video slots in its portfolio and one of the greatest has to be Chaos Crew. This is an older slot game that was released back in 2020, but it’s still one of their most popular titles even today. A while back a sequel to the game was released, called Chaos Crew 2. The game followed the original design and features but came with a few extra perks.
As for the original, this is a great game, one I’ve played many, many times. But this is a highly volatile slot like these, so you get mixed results on each session. Like most other highly volatile slots one night you can hit the motherlode, while another night you can end up with a big fat 0 on your balance in a matter of minutes. Either way Chaos Crew is a powerful and exciting slot, easily capable to make or break you.
Who will enjoy this game?
Chaos Crew is not like most other online slots. When the game was first released the features were something new and fresh to the market. Today many other providers copy this design and features, which speaks for the popularity of this game. So it’s no wonder why players from all calibers visit the reels of Chaos Crew. You just need to want to try something new and exciting and Chaos Crew will meet your needs.
How to Play Chaos Crew
For the design, Chaos Crew comes with a 5×5 grid and 15 active paylines. But once you trigger the feature the paylines don’t matter. The bet sizes can go from $0.20 all the way up to $100 per spin. To set everything in action hit the Spin button. You can also opt-in for the Turbo and Super Turbo features if you want to get through a huge number of spins really fast.
A Decade of Playing Slots
For me, Chaos Crew is one of those slots that sticks with you for years to come. It never gets boring to play and not many games can do that. I’ve been playing slots for a long time, yet my list of favorites is no more than 30 titles. So for Chaos Crew to end up on that list it has to be pretty special. But I don’t see myself moving away from this slot any time soon.
My Own Experience Playing Chaos Crew
Chaos Crew is definitely one of those slots with a love and hate relationship. But then again this is the case with most high volatility slots. I love what this game can do in the bonus round. In a few spins you can end up with massive multipliers on the reels and get a huge payday. This happened to me in one feature, where I landed a 9,000x the stake payout. But other times the bonus can pay less than 20x the stake and the weak payouts keep on coming. This can be devastating for your bankroll and if you don’t leave the game on time you can hit rock bottom pretty fast.
Bonus Features and Payouts
The Wild symbol in Chaos Crew is the Cranky Cat. To be honest when you see him on the reels he looks more like he has the rabies, rather than being just cranky. The Wild can come with a win multiplier of x2, x3 and x5. It will multiply any payout it contributes to. With more than one wild on a payline the multipliers will first multiply each other, then the line payout. So, with this feature, you can hit some nice wins even during base play.
Free Spins Bonus
For the feature to land you need three Free Spins symbols on the reels. You are awarded with 3 free spins and they will keep going until you get 3 empty spins. Every time a winning symbol lands on the reels within the regular 3 free spins, their number resets to 3. So, you can get a lot of extra spins during the feature.
When the bonus starts a number is displayed on top of each reel. This number is the win multiplier, in correlation with your bet. During the feature you can land several winning symbols, each one increasing the win multipliers on the top of the reels.
The Cranky Cat symbol will reveal a win multiplier from x2 to x20, applied to the number on top of the reel it lands on.
The Epic Cranky Cat symbol comes with the same win multipliers from x2 to x20, but they are applied to the numbers on top of all 5 reels.
Another symbol you can land is the Sketchy Skull. It will award a number from 1 to 20, which is added to the number on top of the reel it lands on.
It too comes with an Epic version, where anywhere from 1 to 20 is added to the numbers on top of each of the reels.
Instead of waiting for the feature to land you can buy it at any time via the Bonus Buy button. It will cost 129x the stake.
Comparison with Other slots
If you think Chaos Crew is the right slot for you, I would also recommend giving Chaos Crew 2 a try at casinos like Wazamba here.
You can compare the two and see which one you like better. For me personally, the original is a bit better, but I may be just biased because I’ve been playing it for so long. You can also give some other Hacksaw titles a try, like Cubes 2 and Pug Life.
Benefits and Drawbacks
For me, the biggest drawback of Chaos Crew is the volatility. This is why some features pay very little. It’s very frustrating chasing the feature for 200+ spins only to end up with a 20x payout. Other times even the bonus buys pay very little, so you can lose a lot of bankroll very fast. But when Chaos Crew decides to pay it pays big. So you need to be careful playing this game and know when to quit.
Our Conclusion
Chaos Crew is without a doubt an interesting slot. But I would say this is one of those games where you need a bigger bankroll to have a chance to hit a big win. Naturally, it all comes down to luck. You can do one bonus buy and hit a 5,000x the stake payout. But most of the time you need to keep at it and have the money to go through the cold streaks. The game can certainly pay big, but it’s not easy, nor cheap to do so. Anyway, you can give Chaos Crew a try across our recommended licensed online casinos and see how it turns out.
