The obligatory football themed slot machine, designed for the summer of 2020, Football Star Deluxe is a Microgaming creation which follows in the footsteps of plenty of other similar games, which are due to be launched at about the same time.

They ended up putting in a good design, though not original if we go by the type of symbols we find on those reels. From game logos and trophies, to images of sports equipment, referees, field players or goalkeepers, the list is the expected one, but that doesn’t mean that the quality isn’t there. In fact, I appreciated the lack of unrelated symbols on the reels.

Microgaming is one of the giants of the industry, one of the very first companies to have started operating in the online casino niche. How To Play It

If you look to the side, you will notice the option to select 18, 38, 68 or 88 active lines. That will change the bet that is used as well, so you can get the reels to spin with as little as $0.18, but you can also go as high as $44 (using $0.50 per line).

Though it looks unusual, with its 5×5 reels, the game still relies on regular paylines to create combinations on. Its features are not that complex either, so all in all, the learning curve is not too steep.

Special Features

Whenever a winning combo is formed in this game, there will be Rolling Reels triggering, a feature which removes winning symbols and replaces them with new ones. If additional wins are formed then, the Rolling Reels retrigger as well, and this can go on for quite some time, until no new payouts come your way.

Accessing the free spins is the end goal for a lot of slot machines, and Football Star Deluxe does the same thing. You need Trophies on the reels, as many as possible, three being the minimum. At that point, you get a cash reward, along with 12 free spins with 2x multipliers for all wins. As Rolling Reels trigger in this mode, a multiplier goes up each time, with the potential to get up to 8x eventually. Add stacked wild symbols for the reels 2 to 5, which go up in size each round, and the free spins do have the best potential to get you paid well.

There will also be a random feature, which they’ve named Striking Wild. When it comes, it gives you wilds on the full 5 positions of a reel from the middle (2, 3 or 4). It remains in the same position for the upcoming Rolling Reels, if they trigger.

Maximum Payouts

I’d recommend playing this game with the highest number of lines active, because the RTP is just a little bit better at that point, announced at an excellent 96.88%. I like what they’re doing with the game’s top payout as well, since it can get up to 3,200x total stake.

Summary

Football Star Deluxe is a decent game to be playing, particularly if you’re a fan of football, though with that RTP and features, I’d expect anyone to be interested, at least for a while.
