Overall Rating and the Pros and Cons

Intro: The Montreal Casino (French its: Casino de Montréal) is located on Île Notre-Dame in Montreal and is the largest Casino in Canada, featuring a gaming floor of over 500,000 square feet. The large gaming area houses 3,000 electronic games and 111 table games.

The Casino is an attraction in itself and is the only one of its kind in the city. You can visit the Casino 24/7, although you need to be over the minimum gambling age of 18 to enter. The Casino was opened in 1993, making it also one of the oldest casinos in Canada. It has undergone multiple expansions since first time I gamble there, with the most recent one taking place in 2013.

Apart from gaming, there are five restaurants, visit one of the four bars that offer live sports and other events, or attend the Cabaret du Casino, where most entertainment take place.

Positive
  • Variety of Games: Casino de Montreal is known for its wide range of gaming options, including a vast selection of slot machines, table games like blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and poker, as well as electronic games.
  • Dining and Entertainment: The casino boasts several restaurants and bars, offering a variety of dining options from quick snacks to gourmet meals. Live entertainment and shows are also a regular feature.
  • Impressive Venue: The casino's architecture and interior design are often highlighted as impressive, providing an enjoyable atmosphere for guests.
  • Accessibility: With good parking and accessibility options, visitors find it convenient to get to and from the casino. Public transport options are also available for those who prefer not to drive.
Negatives
  • Crowds and Wait Times: Being a popular venue, it can get crowded, especially on weekends and holidays, leading to longer wait times for games and services.
  • Smoking Areas: I and other visitors have expressed concerns over smoking areas within the casino, which can affect the experience for non-smokers due to the smell and smoke.
  • While many including myself have a positive experience, there are reports of inconsistent customer service, with some guests feeling that the staff could be more attentive or helpful.
  • High Minimum Bets: The minimum bets for table games can be higher than at other casinos, which might deter more casual gamblers or those with a limited budget.

Dress Code

Dress Code IconDespite being the biggest and one of the most famous casinos in Canada, Casino de Montreal does not require you to dress smart, accepting guests in casual attire. You will, however, have to stick to the code of conduct which includes not wearing attire that is considered offensive or gang-related and behaving respectfully to other guests while inside the casino.

You will not be allowed to enter if you are under the age of 18 – the legal gambling age in Quebec – and you cannot bring in alcohol, drugs, or weapons.

Food & Beverages

Food & Beverages

Casino de Montreal makes sure that all its guests are satisfied when it comes to food and beverage options. There are 5 restaurants and 4 bars to choose from, all offering a slightly different experience. The five restaurants are Le Montreal, Pavillon 67, Ajia, L’Instant, and L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon. The four bars have everything you would expect from this world-class casino including HD TVs showing live sporting action, themed events, and a wide selection of cocktails.

Special Events/Promotions

There is no shortage of special events and promotions available at Casino de Montreal. All the special events take place in the Cabaret du Casino, which is a multi-functional hall with exceptional acoustics. Here you can enjoy live music, dancing, private events, and more.

For those looking for gaming related promotions, you will not be disappointed. The casino regularly offers jackpot prizes, with the latest one giving away up to $200,000. In the poker room, you can also win rewards if you have the highest-ranking hand, earning you up to $5,000. Every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday there is a ‘Guess The Number’ promotion which has $10,000 in prizes up for grabs.

Accommodation & Transportation

Casino De Montreal does not have accommodation available, but Montreal is home to many fine hotels that are only a short drive away from the casino. These hotels are located across the St Lawrence River and can be accessed by one of the two bridges to the North and South of the casino. Hotel Les Suites, Hilton Hotel, Hotel William Gray, Delta Hotels by Marriott, and the Best Western Plus are four of the best choices offering a wide range of amenities, including free wi-fi.

Local Attractions

Montreal is the most populous municipality in the province of Quebec and is famous for many attractions, especially Mount Royal which is where the city got its name. Other popular attractions include Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, the Montreal Botanical Gardens, and The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Nearby Casinos

Casino de Montréal is one of the top gaming destinations in Quebec, offering world class entertainment in the heart of Montreal.

For those seeking alternative casino experiences in the province, Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake has earned an excellent reputation, particularly among poker enthusiasts. I have played here several times and have poker friends who regularly play there. It is located approximately 20 minutes from downtown Montreal.

Another notable option is Hôtel-Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, which combines casino gaming with luxury hotel accommodations and is around 2 2-hour drive from Montreal, near Ottawa.

Each of these establishments offers a unique gaming experience, with Casino de Montréal standing out for its extensive game selection and iconic location on Île Notre-Dame.

What makes them stand out

Casino de Montreal is extravagant, large, and the number one casino in the country. The size of the gaming area alone, which includes 3,000 electronic games and over 100 table games, is enough to bring in thousands of tourists every day.

The games, along with numerous restaurants, bars, and entertainment options, make this casino the perfect place for anyone looking to enjoy a night out in Montreal. However, they should lower some of the minimum bets on certain table games, as they are on the high end.

What other players are saying

Matt A “Gorgeous casino. Truly a marvel to see. Tons of games. Tons of slots. My only gripes are that the only crabs table isn’t a conventional crabs table. It’s digitized. The other gripe is you don’t get free drinks while gambling. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Montreal though. Very cool!”

Hamidreza R “This beautiful casino had friendly dealers. It was a bit confusing to navigate, but with so many floors, you could easily get lost. Everyone spoke English, and it’s always a reminder that the house always wins..”

Vince M “I am a worldwide slot gambler since 1976, since it opened in 1989 I noticed low periods in the 90s and here and there but today I rate it as one of the best in the world. The slots are extremely varied, the staff very friendly and the Rtp I estimate at 92% which is average. I love the labyrinth layout very absorbing and free non alcohol drinks including some great coffee and soft drinks with the right fizz. Love the 22$ buffet weekdays, this is the best quality lowest priced buffet in the world believe me. L’instant makes the best club sandwiches and priced just right. Table minimums are too high”

Arvid Y – “We checked out the casino to kill time for a few hours while on a bachelor’s weekend in Montreal. Not the nicest casino by any means, but seems like it’s got all the basic games. Multi-level, which is nice, but also a little confusing.”
